Serves 4 persons
Fish flavored Vegetable Soup / GAENG SOM PLA CHORN
Pepper corns 10 pcs.
Shrimp paste 1 tbsp.
Shallot 10 pcs.
Dried shrimp or fish 1 cup
Other ingredients
Sponge gourd, bottle-gourd,
straw mushroom, baby corn,
and pumpkin, cut into bite size 5 cups
Sweet basil leaves 1 cup
Fish stock or water 4 cups
Fish sauce 2-3 tbsp.
Pound spice mixture ingredient in blender until mixed thoroughly.
Add spice mixture to soup stock (or water) in a pot and heat to boiling, stirring to prevent sticking. Do not cover the pot or allow boiling over.
Add the vegetables and boil. When done, season to taste with fish sauce or salt, as desired; then, remove from heat.
